Things you need to know:
- Hotel de Ville is the town hall of Paris built from 1873 to 1892 in French Renaissance style
- Its site has been the location of Paris city halls since 1357
- Two previous buildings stood here (1357-1533, 1533-1871)
- The present building is a reconstructed of the former one that was burnt down by Common extremists in 1871
- From the outside it is an exact copy of the 16th-century building; from the inside it was newly designed based on standards of its time
- The square in front of the building, a pleasant place now, used to be a site of horrible executions
- The assassin of Henri IV, Ravaillac, was quartered here alive in 1610
