  • Père Lachaise Cemetery is the world's most visited cemetery and the largest (50-ha, 109 acres) in the city of Paris
  • It takes its name after the confessor of Louis XIV, Jesuit Father Lachaise, who used to live on the site
  • Napoleon established a cemetery here in 1804 after the city of Paris purchased the area
  • Jim Morrison, the legendary singer of The Doors, is buried here (one of the reason for its popularity)
  • Other famous people who rest here are Chopin, Oscar Wilde, Balzac, Edith Piaf, Colette, Molière and Delacroix
  • More than 300.000 people are buried in the cemetery
