  • The Pantheon is the burial place for important citizens of Paris
  • Voltaire, Rousseau, Emile Zola, Victor Hugo, Marie Curie, Alexandre Dumas lie here
  • It was originally built by Louis XV to celebrate his recovery from a serious disease
  • It intended to look like the Pantheon in Rome
  • It became a public building in 1885
  • The Panthéon houses a Foucault's pendulum, a device that first proved that earth rotates on an axis

What to do there:

  • Visit the basement of the building that is a crypt of famous French writers, statesmen and scientists
  • Make your way to the first floor housing Foucault's Pendulum
  • Climb to the dome galleries for the spectacular panoramic views of Paris
