  • The edifice and its neoclassical facade symbolize Amsterdam's power in the 17th century
  • The palace was originally built as a town hall (1648-55) and only later turned into a royal palace (1808)
  • It is the official residence of the royal family, but Queen Beatrix prefers to live in The Hague
